State Sen. Glenn Hegar, the Republican nominee for state comptroller, announced Tuesday that his campaign raised $1,393,102 in the latest reporting period of Feb. 23 through June 30.

The haul brings Hegarโ€™s total fundraising in the first half of 2014 to more than $2 million. His campaign now has $1,228,987 in cash on hand, without any outstanding loans.

Hegar faces Democratic nominee Mike Collier, a Houston businessman who has not previously held elected office, in the general election.

โ€œTexans want a proven fiscal conservative to lead the charge to protect taxpayers and reduce inefficiencies in state government,โ€ Hegar said in a statement. โ€œI am very grateful for our campaignโ€™s financial and grassroots supporters who are helping us spread our positive message to the people of Texas.โ€
